Theopetra Cave – the origin of all
Being the most important cave in the Greek territory and one of the most significant ones in the European continent, Theopetra Cave is located between Trikala and Meteora and reveals that the area has been inhabited from the Stone Age. This is the cave that was used as a shelter-residence and which favored the first stages of human civilization in Thessaly, where the oldest footprints of Greece were found – about 130,000 years old! They are the second oldest footprints, behind those of Terra Ammata in France, which are 380,000 years old. The traces, as well as the findings that originate from the revolution of the Late Age Stone, are among the greatest memorials of human existence.
