Meteora – Monastic community
Did man climb Meteora Rocks, so as to reach the sky, in his pursuit of peace and perfect harmony? Looking for a humble life, he found shelter in natural cavities, where the first stone of the most remarkable world Monastic Community was laid. Nature embraced faith and faith protected it through prayers. In the 14th century, the first monastic community and the Monastery of Great Meteoron were founded. Over the years, followed the foundation of another 20 floating monasteries, which seem to have been in these rocks since the primitive their formation. Today, the Monastery of Agios Nikolaos Anapafsas, the Monastery of the Transfiguration of Christ or Great Meteoron, the Monastery of Varlaam, the Monastery of Roussanou, the Monastery of Holy Trinity and the that of Saint Stephen welcome visitors and pilgrims from all over the world to a land of sanctity and unchanged mental uplift.
